ARRIVAL INFORMATION
After collecting your luggage, please proceed to the car rental area where you will find the Mex Rent A Car booth. A uniformed Mex Rent A Car agent will arrange the shuttle to pick you up and drive you to our main office to collect your vehicle. Shuttles are blue with the Mex Rent A Car logo. You can also call +52 (81) 2085 8199 for additional pick up instructions.
ADDITIONAL DRIVER
A charge of $5.09 USD per day including taxes applies to each additional driver.
AGE
Minimum age permitted is 18 years old. An additional charge of $12.76 USD per day will apply for renters between 18 and 25 years old.
CANCELLATIONS
If your booking was confirmed through the website start-rentacar.banregio.com or through our Call Center at +52 (81) 2085 8199, please use the same channel to request your cancellation. If your booking was confirmed through a third-party website (broker, online travel agency, etc.) please use the same third-party website to request your cancellation. Some third-party sites have cancellation fees if the booking is not cancelled within certain period of time. Start Rent a Car will not be responsible for such cancellation fees.
DEPOSIT
Required deposits are based on the coverage included as explained below:
- RLP+CDW: An additional credit card approval of $10,000.00 MXN will be required in addition to the estimated total for the rental. For the following category vehicles such as Premium SUV (Chevrolet Suburban or Similar), Sport Convertible (Ford Mustang Convertible or Similar) and Standard Size SUV (Jeep Wrangler 4x4 or Similar) it is required to grant an authorization of $ 25,000.00 MXN.
- CT – CT2 – CT3 – CT4: An additional credit card approval of $1,500.00 MXN will be required in addition to the estimated total for the rental. For the following category vehicles such as Premium SUV (Chevrolet Suburban or Similar), Sport Convertible (Ford Mustang Convertible or Similar) and Standard Size SUV (Jeep Wrangler 4x4 or Similar) it is required to grant an authorization of $ 5,000.00 MXN
Accepted method for deposit at the counter: Credit Cards (Visa, MasterCard and American Express). The credit card must have more than one year of use and must be personalized (with your name and signature).
DRIVERS LICENSE
All drivers must present a valid drivers license during pick up. The license must have more than 1 year of usage and be in roman alphabet.
EXCHANGE RATE
Due fluctuations on the currency exchange rate, have in mind that the total charged on your credit card might differ from the total displayed on our website. The difference (if any) will depend on the currency exchange rate between the moment when the booking was made and the moment when the charge is reflected on your credit card statement. On the event we have to refund any amount to your account, we will refund the exact same amount charged originally and we will not be responsible for any currency fluctuation that may occur and that results in a higher or lower refund than the one expected.
FUEL
Vehicles must be returned with the same amount of fuel as at the start of rental to avoid refueling charges.
GEOGRAPHIC
An additional charge will apply if crossing the US border. For additional details please ask our sales agents about our U.S. Insurance (USI). This option is only valid for rentals originated in México. Vehicles cannot cross the borders to Guatemala or Belize.
GRACE PERIOD
Reservations will be honored for a period of 2 hours after the confirmed pick up date and time. After this period, we cannot guarantee the reserved vehicle, but you can be sure we will do everything in our power to provide you with a vehicle.
INSURANCE AND WAIVER OPTIONS
Start Rent A Car includes the following coverage in all its rates displayed on the website start-rentacar.banregio.com for destinations within Mexico:
- (RLP+CDW) Rental Liability Protection / Collision Damage Waiver: Protects you against claims for injury/damage you cause to third persons/their property up to $750,000.00 MXN. Limits the responsibility of the customer over the rented vehicle to a deductible of 10% of the car value, in case of accident or theft. Theft, vandalism or damage to parts and accessories are NOT covered.
You will be able to select one of the following additional coverages at time of rental. All the following coverages are optional:
CT – CT2 – CT3 – CT4 (Total Coverage): Limits the responsibility of the customer over the rented vehicle to a deductible of 0% of the car value, in case of accident or theft. Theft, vandalism or damage to parts and accessories are NOT covered. You will have access to legal assistance if it´s necessary. This coverage extends the coverage of legal liability up to a maximum of $5’000,000.00 MXN. The liability insurance limits the responsibility of the customer over damages it may cause to third parties or properties only. Also, you will be covered for medical expenses in case of accident in the rented vehicle up to $40,000.00 MXN per occupant or up to the total number of passengers according to the characteristics of the automobile. Also, we will waive all, or a portion of, the cost of a roadside assistance service up to the amount of $5,000.00 MXN per incident. Benefits include emergency road service towing, winching, jump start, flat tire change, lockout service, and emergency fuel delivery. Some restrictions may apply, please ask for a copy of our RSA brochure at the rental counter. The cost of the Total Coverage options will depend on the rented vehicle category as explained below:
- CT: Vehicles that apply for this option are Mini, Economy. CT is $21.67 USD per day including taxes.
- CT2: Vehicles that apply for this option are Compact, Intermediate, Standard, Fullsize, Hybrid, Mini SUV and Compact SUV. CT2 is $22.95 USD per day including taxes.
- CT3: Vehicles that apply for this option are Premium, Luxury, Compact Convertible, PickUp, Intermediate SUV, Standard SUV, Fullsize SUV, Mini Van, Intermediate Van. CT3 is $26.78 USD per day including taxes.
- CT4: Vehicles that apply for this option are Premium SUV, Fullsize Van, All Terrain, Sport, Sport Convertible. CT4 is $30.61 USD per day including taxes.
LCA (PAI + RSA + Tires and Windshield Coverage): Medical expenses in case of accident in the rented vehicle up to $40,000.00 MXN per occupant or up to the total number of passengers according to the characteristics of the automobile. Also, we will waive all, or a portion of, the cost of a roadside assistance service up to the amount of $5,000.00 MXN per incident. Benefits include emergency road service towing, winching, jump start, flat tire change, lockout service, and emergency fuel delivery. LCA includes Tires and Windshield Coverage. Some restrictions may apply, please ask for a copy of our RSA brochure at the rental counter. The cost of the LCA options will depend on the rented vehicle category as explained below:
- LCA: Vehicles that apply for this option are Mini, Economy. LCA is $8.92 USD per day including taxes.
- LCA2: Vehicles that apply for this option are Compact, Intermediate, Standard, Fullsize, Hybrid, Mini SUV and Compact SUV. LCA2 is $11.47 USD per day including taxes.
- LCA3: Vehicles that apply for this option are Premium, Luxury, Compact Convertible, PickUp, Intermediate SUV, Standard SUV, Fullsize SUV, Mini Van, Intermediate Van. LCA3 is $14.02 USD per day including taxes.
- LCA4: Vehicles that apply for this option are Premium SUV, Fullsize Van, All Terrain, Sport, Sport Convertible. LCA4 is $16.57 USD per day including taxes.
USI (United States Insurance): It covers damage to third parties up to $50,000.00 USD (liability) and $10,000.00 USD (medical expenses) divided by the number of occupants. USI is $10.20 USD per day including taxes.
MILEAGE
The mileage is unlimited.
It is important to inform you that as of February 1, 2020 at the locations of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City, Monterrey, Los Cabos, Playa del Carmen, Guadalajara and Tijuana, local customers will have 45 kilometers included in courtesy for each rental day. In case of exceeding the mileage limit previously established, each kilometer exceeded will cost $10.00 MXN including taxes. You may be asked for your flight confirmation of departure from the city to skip this charge. This new policy applies to those customers who book through third-party sites, as long as their rate does not include our CDW coverage in it.
NO SMOKING
Please do not smoke inside the vehicle. If any smoke is detected, a cleaning fee will apply.
ONE-WAY RENTALS
One-way rentals are available, a drop-off charge may apply. Vehicles with pick up in Mexico cannot have a drop off in United States and viceversa.
ONLINE BOOKINGS
Rates that are impacted by a website technical issue, database issue or other means will not be honored by the location if the rate display was inaccurate due to a technical issue or tampering issue to change the rate display.
OPTIONAL EXTRAS
Children under the age of 4 are required to travel in Child Seats. There is a charge of $7.64 USD per day including taxes for each child seat. If the seat is not returned in the same condition, less normal wear and tear as received, a cleaning fee will be assessed. If the seat is damaged a repair or replacement charge will apply. (Subject to availability).
Hotspot units are available for $15.31 USD per day including taxes. This device provides internet access. Please ask for details at time of rental.
Traveltab Adventurer units are available for $15.31 USD per day including taxes. This device includes unlimited Internet access, GPS and telephone service. Please ask for details at time of rental.
PAYMENTS
The following are accepted for rental payment: Debit or Credit Cards (Visa, Master Card, American Express and JCB).
PRE-PAY
Start Rent A Car reserves the right not to deliver the vehicle if it considers that the driver is not able to drive or if driver does not comply with the rules described on these terms, even if the booking has been pre-paid. Therefore, it is very important that you familiarize the terms and the documents that need to be presented at pick up. For more information, please contact us at +52 (81) 2085 8199.
RULES
All customers should present the following documents in order to proceed with the rental:
- Official ID (INE or Passport).
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Credit Card.
The same credit card or same cardholder cannot be used to rent two or more vehicles within the same time period.
Early/Late Return: Your confirmed rental rate applies only to the exact reservation period booked. Returning the vehicle early or keeping the vehicle past the confirmed return date subjects you to an additional charge:
- Early Return: An additional charge of $31.90 USD including taxes will apply.
- Later Return: An additional charge of $38.28 USD including taxes will apply.

Multiple or Duplicate Reservations: If you require multiple vehicles for the same or overlapping time periods, please make sure to use a different name for each reservation, otherwise the duplicate name reservations will be automatically cancelled. Start Rent A Car will not be responsible for such cancellations.
